It can scan to the usual graphic formats, but can also scan to pdf (also with the ability to create multi-page pdfs), perform ocr, and something that I never had on my previous scanners which is to scan several pictures at a single pass but create individual pages for each image, rather than just one. Also an advantage is not having an additional power cord to deal with; this scanner just uses one of your USB ports.
